Directors notes
Georges Lenfant could be described as one of the unsung heroes of 20th Century French jewellery. A hugely skilled designer and manufacturer, he was a Cartier workmaster and made jewellery for many of the top Parisian houses of the Place Vendome and rue de la Paix. He was joined in the business by his son Jacques who wrote a book on the art of chains called simply ‘Le Livre de la Chaîne’. In it he describes how the Optical collection was inspired by the "geometric and kinetic abstractions of the 1950s" which gave rise to an "infinite" number of ideas and designs such as this one.
Literature & exhibitions
Please see 'Le Livre de la Chaîne' by Jacques Lenfant p.115 for an image of a bracelet watch with this pattern.
