Van Cleef & Arpels

A Stylish Pair of 18ct Gold ‘Door Knocker’ Clip Earrings

A stylish pair of vintage ‘door knocker’ gold earrings by Van Cleef & Arpels c.1970s, each earring formed of a fluted shell shaped top suspending an articulated rounded oval of open tapering form, all in heavily textured 18ct yellow gold with clip fittings. The ‘door knocker’ style of earring was extremely popular during this period and many of the top jewellery houses created their own variations on the theme. This particular pair has a lovely shape and the domed profile adds volume without heaviness. They have great movement, meaning that raised and richly textured gold catches the light beautifully. A bold and quintessentially 70s pair of earrings for those who want to add a little drama to their ears!
