Vintage Pair of 20ct Gold, Lapis Lazuli, Diamond and Sapphire Earrings

A wonderfully stylish and colourful pair of vintage earrings by Bulgari c.1970s, made in 20ct yellow gold and of large oval form, the earrings each set with a crescent moon shaped piece of carved and polished rich blue lapis lazuli, the inside curve of the crescent is set with a tapered row of seven graduated round brilliant cut diamonds and then with an oval cabochon sapphire forming a complete gem-set oval, the plain polished gold mount with post and clip fittings. These earrings combine the rich warmth of high carat gold with the cool tones of blue and white gems, the opaque blue of the lapis contrasting beautifully with the bright sparkle of the diamonds. We also have a dress ring to match.

In 1880 a young Greek silversmith, Sotirios Boulgaris, arrived in Italy looking to build a new life. It didn’t take him long to establish himself and after a couple of false starts he opened his eponymous shop on Via Sistina in Rome in 1884.  He Italianised his name to Sotirio Bulgari and the firm that would eventually come to represent the very essence of ‘la dolce vita’ was born.
