A Vintage Sapphire and Diamond Collar Necklace

A beautiful sapphire and diamond necklace by Bulgari c.1970s, the collar necklace of flat ribbon form, finely articulated and set with alternating clusters of either three round diamonds or three round sapphires, all in platinum rub over settings to a concealed tongue and box clasp with safety catch. The stones are well matched and of good colour and lively appearance, the necklace has been beautifully made with very fine articulation creating a satiny ribbon like feel as well as look.

In 1880 a young Greek silversmith, Sotirios Boulgaris, arrived in Italy looking to build a new life. It didn’t take him long to establish himself and after a couple of false starts he opened his eponymous shop on Via Sistina in Rome in 1884.  He Italianised his name to Sotirio Bulgari and the firm that would eventually come to represent the very essence of ‘la dolce vita’ was born.
