A lovely Victorian gold and moonstone brooch c.1870s, the elongated oval shaped moonstone carved with an image of Aphrodite riding across the water in her chariot which is being pulled by a sea dragon ridden by Eros and accompanied in the water by two further Erotes, there is a single star shining in the night sky above them, the moonstone is set into a gold frame with double rope twist border embellished at the cardinal points with a clam shell, one of the primary motifs of Aphrodite, all to a single pin brooch fitting to the reverse.
