Antique 18ct Gold and Blue Enamel Pocket Watch

A delightful gold pocket watch by Cartier c.1920 the round watch case in highly polished 18ct yellow gold decorated with an outer frame of rich royal blue enamel and centred with a pair of overlapping initials, R and C, in italic script within a circular border also in royal blue enamel, around the edge are the words CINQUANTE ANS D’AMITIE meaning fifty years of friendship, the watch face has a white background with roman numerals and black hands and is signed Cartier, in original fitted green leather box. This is a charming piece made to commemorate an enduring and obviously meaningful friendship and whilst we don’t know who RC was or who gave them this watch, the sentiment behind this elegant gift is clear.
