An Antique Diamond and Sapphire Tortoise Brooch

An antique tortoise brooch, circa 1870. The tortoise is of a realistic design with a high domed shell, set with old cut diamonds and cushion cut sapphires. The sapphires are set in yellow gold depicting a characteristic tortoise shell pattern. The eyes are cabochon rubies, all set in silver and gold.
