Kutchinsky
A Magnificent Vintage Gold, Coral and Diamond Brooch and Earring Suite
A magnificent gold, coral and diamond suite by Kutchinsky 1969/70, comprised of a large clip brooch of star-burst design and formed of a central irregular oval shaped cluster of round brilliant cut diamonds in claw settings scattered within an organic textured surround of 18ct yellow gold with openwork areas and gold bead details, from this centre emanates eight pieces of carved and polished fine quality orange coral in tapering ridged fan-like forms, all vary a little in size and shape adding to the naturalistic organic feel of the piece and are set at slightly different heights and angles, surrounding each of these is a frame of gold in the same style as the centre and further diamonds are scattered around each one, to the reverse is a double pin clip fitting as well as a pendant loop which is not visible from the front of the brooch. The earrings are each formed of three pieces of coral of the same design as the brooch fanning out from a central asymmetric scattered cluster of round brilliant cut diamonds and interspersed with three pieces of irregularly textured thinly hammered sheets of gold, all to clip fittings. This brilliantly bold and beautiful suite has taken inspiration from nature and the sea with all elements echoing the natural habitat of the coral. The organic texture and shape of the gold gives the impression of coral in its natural form and the fin like shapes of the coral recall the fishes it shares the sea with. Quintessentially late 60s/early 70s in design these pieces are a joyful splash of summery colour and style.
