A Stylish 18ct Gold and Diamond Spiga Necklace

A stylish vintage gold and diamond Spiga necklace by Bulgari c.1970s, formed of closely set interlocking uniform links of zig-zag design, the front set with three evenly spaced diamond sections, each set with twenty seven round brilliant cut diamonds, to a concealed tongue and box clasp with safety catch. The diamonds are well matched and high quality with a bright and lively appearance, they add a subtle sparkle to the necklace which is flexible and comfortable to wear. It is a classic piece of Italian gold jewellery that can be dressed up or down and offers great versatility.

In 1880 a young Greek silversmith, Sotirios Boulgaris, arrived in Italy looking to build a new life. It didn’t take him long to establish himself and after a couple of false starts he opened his eponymous shop on Via Sistina in Rome in 1884.  He Italianised his name to Sotirio Bulgari and the firm that would eventually come to represent the very essence of ‘la dolce vita’ was born.
