Directors Notes

Tokens of love and sentiment feature prominently in jewellery dating back to the medieval period, but it was during the 19th century that the heart motif became highly prominent. The Victorian’s were hugely fond of heart shaped jewels, no doubt influenced by Queen Victoria’s fondness for the shape and this carried through in to the 20th century. It is a motif that remains beloved by many and this pendant is a particularly beautiful representation of it. Rubies have long been associated with passion and the surrounding diamonds, often considered to represent everlasting love due to their supreme durability, making this a particularly romantic jewel with multiple levels of symbolism.
