Edwardian circa 1910
A Beautiful Antique Natural Oriental Pearl and Diamond Sautoir Necklace
A beautiful antique Edwardian pearl and diamond sautoir necklace c.1910, the necklace formed of a double row of seed pearls interspersed with platinum triple scroll links and joined together by single seed pearls forming a loosely woven effect, towards the front are two round natural pearls set between foliate motifs each embellished with an old European brilliant cut diamond, suspended from the necklace is a drop shaped natural cream pearl within a tapering frame of similar shape set throughout with old European and rose cut diamonds and with millegrain edges, surmounted by a single round natural pearl and double foliate motif, all in platinum to a simple clasp. This elegant necklace is quintessentially Edwardian in style and has a lightness and delicacy often associated with jewellery of the period. The natural pearls are creamy in colour with a beautiful lustre and many exhibit subtle hints of pink and yellow. The diamonds are bright and lively and provide a lovely contrast to the pearls whilst the platinum pulls everything together in this lovely monochromatic jewel.
