Directors Notes

The rivière necklace was an extremely popular design in the 18th and 19th centuries, they were made in either diamonds or coloured stones, in either uniform or graduated rows. The name translates literally as ‘river’ which alludes to the flow of gemstones going all the way around the neck. A favourite with Royalty and courtiers both in Europe and further afield and historically were often worn in multiples to emphasise wealth and status. This style of necklace, like any timeless design, remains as popular today as it has ever been. This rivière necklace is beautifully articulated with bright old cut diamonds that are well matched and lively.
