Vladimir Makovsky (1884-1966), a Russian-born European craftsman, was known for his highly-prized skills, particularly with inlays consisting of tinted mother-of-pearl and a mixture of hardstones on a mother-of-pearl background. He worked for Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Black, Starr & Frost among others producing recreations of Chinese lacquer and stone work from original Oriental models.
His work is signed with a small black ‘M’.
