Chantecler was founded in Capri by Pietro Capuano affectionately known as 'Chantecler' among his friends, son of a Neapolitan jeweller, and Salvatore Aprea, a native of Capri, in 1947.
The initial shop was located on the Via Camerelle. Chantecler has always been renowned for its extraordinary creations in coral that captured the eye of the international jet set on vacation in Capri right from the start.
The shop became a regular stop for the leading figures of the jet set and dolce vita on Capri in the 50s and 60s - Greta Garbo, Stravos Niarkos, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Joan Crawford, Jacqueline Kennedy and Onassis.
Upon Salvatore’s untimely death in 1994, Gabriele Aprea, aided by his wife Teresa, and his younger sisters Maria Elena and Costanza, resumed control of the firm. The family has two boutiques in Capri, one in the Italian ski resort, Cortina, and one in Milan at the Hotel Principe di Savoia. In the United States, their jewels are available exclusively at Le Vieux Saint Honoré in New York.
Today, Chantecler jewels are distributed in the most elegant and exclusive jewellery stores around the world.
