Directors Notes
Born in Rome in 1936, Aldo Cipullo came from a distinguished jewellery background. His family owned a jewellery company specialising in costume jewellery. He moved to New York in 1959 to study at the School of Visual Arts. He then worked as a designer for David Webb, moving to Tiffany, and then to Cartier. He loved to use themes of nails, knots, dollar signs and ropes in his creations. Aldo Cipullo's life was cut short at the age of 48, when he died of heart failure. His unique designs, however, live on. He once said, 'Jewellery should be part of the body. It should not stick out from it, but it should be part of it. It should enhance the person wearing it.'
