Beautiful Victorian brooch designed as the face of a cherub in polychrome enamel inbetween a pair of wings with diamond highlights English circa 1885
Victorian circa 1885
24 old rose-cut diamonds 0.40cts approx
4.30cm / 1.70'
Overall very good with a secure brooch pin, minor abrasions to the enamel hard to see without magnification, some scratching and discolouration to the metalwork as commensurate with age and wear.
A very similar example can be seen in 'Understanding Jewellery' by David Bennett and Daniela Mascetti page 124, and also in 'The power of Jewellery' Nancy Schiffer, pp. 205. These pendants are dated c.1850 and are described as being of 'sentimental' design - a subject that was popular at the time. Ours is later, however, the inspiration would be similar.
